Since everyone here probably owns a Netcell card, it would probably be best to start off introducing ourselves. Put down what you own and what you use it for. I own the SR5000 model made by PNY and use it in my Ubuntu family server for a RAID3 and single-drive. Too bad there isn't any way to connect the card to Linux so it would know the status of the drives .

Hi, Name is Colin, and i use 1 of my 3 netcell cards for a remote backup server. Its using 250 gig sata drives, and as of right now, one of them is dead, but the volume is working as fast as usual. Maybe i should replace the failed drive but thats effort.

Not a bad idea. I've been using these cards in various flavors for a good while now. I currently use a PNY SR5000 in my family Linux file server in 3 x 500GB configuration.

I have an XP based system. Intel Pentium 4, 3.4GHz. I have a PNY 5000 card configurad as a RAID 1 array using 2 320 GB SATA 3.0GB drives. I have a data base that I spent a considerable effort in acquiring, as such I am more concerned with data loss than speed. In fact I also back up the data on an external drive. Over the last couple of years the Netcell Storage Manager tells me I have a drive failure about once every 3 months. Many times like right now it comes up and says either a drive is missing or has experienced a failure. If I refresh I get the same answer. However powering down and restarting the drive is now there. If I rebuld which takes many hours. At this point I am considering just removing and doing without the card and just maintaining an image of the first drive on the 2nd using Acronis. Have any of you taken a drive RAID 1 (both are supposed to be exact images) off the SR5000 and pluged it back into the MB? Any problems.

To answer your question-yes I have and found that both drives had the same exact information on them like they were supposed to. If you still have doubts, you can always back up to something else before doing so just in case...

1 PNY 5 port Netcell, migrated through my systems for the past 4 years, still in use with 3 1TB green drives, QX6800 system.
I had the disappearing drive syndrome a few times. Once it was a bum drive, then it was a weak power supply, then it was one of the Sata cables, last time it was a power cable to the drive issue. Since my last problem, it's been rock solid for about 9 months. Keep those cables tight!

My name is Peter and I live in Sweden. I have a 5 port Netcell which I bought it some months ago on E-bay. I too have had "disapearing drive" - problem. No idea why yet. Comes back after restart. Another "problem" is that I can only have two arrays. I have the latest firmware so I am guessing this card can't have more than two arrays. How about you? By the way; I downloaded all the files provided by www.soft-port.dk and put them on my website. I would appreciate if anyone who has a file that is not available at soft-port.dk, send it to me so that I can upload it to my site as well. Since soft-port.dk might not be available for ever I felt that this would be a good thing to do. The site is in Swedish but here is the address if you want to take a look: www.xn--stenlf-0xa.se/PHP/pnysata.phpBest regards Peter
